Commuter
The Athenian band have distinguished themselves for their energy on stage, breaking out of their local music scene to attract an international following. By snarling guitar-centered rock with inward-looking pessimism their music plays heavily on instrumental dynamics and blunt physical impact, that puts them next to established post-punk acts such as Protomartyr, Dry Cleaning and Brit gloom rockers like Cure. Their debut album “Guilt Eraser,” out in October 2024, is very much concerned with earthly realms, and the ever-interminable weight of everyday survival in a decaying society.
It all started as the musical project of Dionysis Koutavas (vocals/guitar) in 2019, and two years later joined by Spilios Kakkas (bass), Dimitris Koutsoulis (drums) and Kostas Bariamis (guitar), bridging new wave with punk and noise rock in a common acceptance that all is gone to shit. Their contributions are inspired, adding refinements and aggression where it’s needed, that in no way blunts their impact or lessens the feeling of doom that lurks around in almost every corner.
In the sonic world of Commuter struggle is always present, and there’s a constant mocking threat of ruin and. In the end, what they have to say is effective as editorial commentary and as music.
