“Goran Bregović and the Ramones, walk into a bar…”

This could easily be the tagline of Lepyr’s music who gradually developed his individual sound by merging synth punk and electro with traditional elements, freely mixing them in an upbeat and unexpected “indie” way.

Apostolos Aggos, the real person behind the moniker, was born and raised in Serres, before relocating to Barcelona. He started off as member of bands, playing alternative rock and English-speaking songs, and later he switched to keyboards, while appreciating the traditional sounds of his homeland and the lyricism of the Greek language- especially its common expressions, that fitted his artistic dream.

The years of economic and social crisis in Greece, the troubled era of pandemic, and life in the countryside gave flesh and bones to Lepyr’s persona. In his debut album, “Bukurana” (meaning ‘beautiful’ in Arvanitic language), out via Veego Records, he incorporates old-school electronica and punk in an independent blend with Greek artists Elena Leoni (in “A Small Fear”) and Mazoha (“Me and My Shadow”) joining in. The album takes on different structural challenges through carefully layered compositions, balancing sereness and intensity.

Greece’s eclectic history patches together different cultures and influences, which color the music that seeps out of the country’s pores. And Lepyr seems to know how to combine these sonic variables
