The Trace of Time

ΤΟ ΙΧΝΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΧΡΟΝΟΥ

1 hour 37 minutes – 2020 – Documentary

The Trace of Time is a film about time, memory, nostalgia. A film about the beauty of archeology and excavation through the post-mortem portrait of archeologist Yannis Sakellarakis. A journey in search of a man who is no longer present, through the trace he left in the places he had been, and the people he met. A cinematic excavation that brings to light an image through fragments and traces, just like archeology.

Reviews

Kopanas’ steady lens does not hide her emotion. Following “the footsteps of others” as she confesses, she composes a huge and inhomogeneous volume of her own, as well as archival footage, with the same success as a conservator welding the rims of an ancient vase.

She combines the memory of her own father, who lives in the clouds of Mount Lycaeus, with Sakellarakis’ vision of a cloud that was trapped and dissolved in front of him in the cave of Idaios Andros. In fact, Dionysia Kopanas opens the cracks of time and travels within it. She sets – as we all long to do – her own trail. That which torments us, makes us cry, laugh, run from end to end, climb mountains and dive into the sea and say it’s okay. “The Trace of Time” is a redemptive experience for those who see it.
