With Marco

In Petros Klampanis’ own words in 2021: Since my son was born, we spend some time everyday playing the piano together. It is interesting, sweet and quite inspiring to observe how he reacts to sound. Much to my surprise, I have come to realise how much I have been learning from this little daily musical ritual. A primal result of this game with Marco, is this tune, which I recorded with four of my favourite musicians out there”. Petros Klampanis

Acclaimed bassist and composer Petros Klampanis, “the bass ace” as the Bass Player Magazine described him, is an incisive, fearless musician. Born in Athens, his musical upbringing was naturally inspired by the Mediterranean traditions and Balkan folk music.

In his 2023 album “Tora Collective” (‘Tora’ literally means ‘now’ in Greek) he bridges folkloric and modern jazz worlds, with a creative assembly of Greek and other international jazz and folk artists – Areti Ketime in vocals, Thomas Konstantinou in oud and laouto, Giorgos Kotsinis in clarinet, Kristjan Randalu in piano, and Ziv Ravitz in drums, electronics and co-production.

Klampanis’ stunning debut album, “Contextual”, was released by Greg Osby’s Inner Circle Music. His sophomore release “Minor Dispute” was selected as one of the best jazz records of 2015 by National Public Radio. “Chroma (Motéma)”, was named Best Live Album of 2017 by the Independent Music Awards and was featured in major international radio and press outlets, such as WBGO, FIP and TSF in France, DownBeat and JazzTimes. He has steadily built a long list of collaborations with renowned artists- Greg Osby, Jacques Morelenbaum, Oded Tzur, Arooj Aftab, Anoushka Shankar, Shai Maestro, Gilad Hekselman, Jean-Michel Pilc, Snarky Puppy, Dimitra Galani andMaria Farantouri, among many.

His time is shared between New York and Athens, with a vigorous presence in the most esteemed venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Blue Note, The Kennedy Center, MoMA NYC, Barbican (London), Roskilde (Denmark), Glastonbury (UK), Rock in Rio (Lisbon), as well as Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall and the Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
