During winter, the Menalon Ski Center at Ostrakina becomes a local favorite. With slopes ranging from 1,550 to 1,770 meters, the center features ski runs for all levels, plus snowboarding and snowmobile options. Its manageable size and friendly atmosphere make it perfect for families or weekend getaways.

As the snow melts, Menalon transforms into a lush retreat for nature lovers. The highlight is the Menalon Trail, a certified 75 km hiking route that weaves through stone-built villages like Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, and Vytina. Along the way, walkers encounter dense fir forests, wooden bridges, river canyons, and Byzantine chapels tucked into the mountainside. The trail is well-marked and divided into segments, making it accessible to both casual hikers and serious trekkers.

A notable stop along the trail is the Prodromos Monastery (Monastery of Timios Prodromos), dramatically built into the cliffs of the Lousios Gorge. Founded in the 16th century, the monastery served as a refuge and hospital for fighters during the Greek Revolution of 1821. Visitors can admire its remarkable frescoes and enjoy panoramic views of the gorge. The monastery is accessible via a short hike from nearby parking areas, and guests are welcomed with traditional Greek hospitality.
