Gr2me Launches Annual Award to Emerging Documentary Filmmakers

To support new directors and their creative projects, Gr2me has launched an annual Gr2me Award. This award will be given at participating Greek film festivals to directors of documentary shorts showcased at these events. The winner will also have the chance to create a short documentary for Gr2me, with the platform covering the financing and production. In the summer of 2024, Gr2me gave out two Special Prizes for short documentary films. The first prize was awarded at the Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival in July 2024 to “Light of Light,” directed by Neritan Zinxhiria. The second prize was presented at the Kymata International Film Festival in August 2024 for the film “When I Die, Let the Universe Burn,” directed by Evripidis Karydis.

The Panorama of European Cinema is Athens’ oldest film festival. Recent European productions are presented in an international competition. Prizes are awarded by the juries of The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), the Greek Film Critics Association (PEKK) and the Panorama’s directors’ committee, while the Audience Award is awarded by the Athinorama Magazine readers’ committee.
The section “World Cinema Premieres” includes recent movies that have participated in large international festivals. Tributes and Special Screenings are also programmed.

Revealing documentary at the Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival

The 14-hours long documentary film «exergue - on documenta 14» by Dimitris Athiridis that premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, was presented in the framework of the 13th Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival. The film follows Adam Szymczyk, artistic director of the leading art fair Documenta, which in 2017, the first time it was organized simultaneously in Kassel and Athens, was marred by a major scandal.

International stars honored at the Thessaloniki Film Festival

Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, attended the screening of their new film “The Return” (2024), a retelling of Homer’s Odyssey directed by Umberto Pasolini, at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The two renowned actors received the Festival’s honorary Golden Alexander award.
