Freedom Candlemaker is the artistic moniker of Greek Cypriot musician, songwriter, and producer Lefteris Moumtzis. The name is a literal English translation of his own, but it also reflects the essence of his music—warm, contemplative, and quietly luminous.
Moumtzis studied music in Boston, Massachusetts, and later in Birmingham, UK, before spending several formative years in London. There, he became an active figure in the city’s alternative music scene, forming projects such as Masters of Disguise and Trio Tekke while curating independent music nights across South London.
His debut album under the Freedom Candlemaker alias, Beaming Light (2019), marked a defining moment in his artistic journey. Blending lush synthesizer textures with guitar-driven arrangements and reflective songwriting, the album introduced listeners to a sonic world shaped by themes of spirituality, empathy, and personal transformation.
In 2025, he returned with Ageless, an ambitious and deeply introspective work created over four years in studios across Cyprus, Athens, London, and Utrecht. The album explores vulnerability, liberation from social conditioning, and the search for a timeless inner truth. Musically, it moves through expansive landscapes of neo-psychedelia, atmospheric rock, and experimental textures, enriched by collaborations with British drummer Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Sons of Kemet) and Greek violinists Fotis Siotas and Dimitris Foken.
Beyond his solo work—including singles such as “Gold,” “I Am Love,” “The Win,” and “Resurrection”—Moumtzis has played a key role in shaping Cyprus’s independent music scene. He co-founded Louvana Records and served for many years as Artistic Director of the Fengaros Music Festival, Fengaros Music Village, and Lefkosia Loop Festival, helping nurture a vibrant platform for emerging artists and experimental music.
Today, through the ever-evolving Freedom Candlemaker project, Moumtzis continues to craft immersive musical experiences that invite listeners inward—toward reflection, healing, and a renewed connection with their authentic selves.
