SPOTLIGHT ON PEOPLE

Nama Dama

Nama Dama is the artistic moniker of Cypriot-Ukrainian performer, composer, and multidisciplinary artist Anastasia Demetriadou. Known for crafting mesmerizing audio-visual performances, she creates immersive worlds where music, storytelling, and ritual converge.

Blending the haunting elegance of electronic folk with the vibrancy of pop, Nama Dama’s sound feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in cultural memory. Drawing from her Ukrainian, Greek, and Cypriot heritage, she builds rich sonic landscapes that fuse ancestral influences with modern electronic textures.

Her debut album Pagan Soul (2025) crystallized this unique approach, merging ancient spiritual motifs, pagan folk elements, and hypnotic electronic rhythms into a cohesive artistic language. The record introduced the concept of “Pagan Soul,” a genre she describes as a fusion of ritualistic folk traditions and modern electronic songwriting.

Using live looping, synths, percussion, voice, and wind instruments, Nama Dama transforms each performance into an immersive ritual. Her concerts dissolve the boundaries between performer and audience, creating a shared space of sound, memory, and presence.

Since launching her solo project in 2019, she has steadily built a dedicated international following. Her debut EP Confessions to My Songbird (2021) functioned as a musical diary of intimate narratives, while Eat Me Raw (Live) (2023) captured the raw energy of her performances recorded in Nicosia between 2021 and 2022.

Her performances have appeared on the stages of festivals and events such as Tremor Festival in the Azores, Fengaros Festival in Cyprus, Athens Music Week, Pulsar Festival in Samothraki, and TEDx Limassol. In 2025 she also performed at the iconic Glastonbury Festival, marking a milestone moment for Cypriot artists on the international stage.

Beyond her solo project, Demetriadou composes music for theatre and interdisciplinary performance. In 2024 she received the Young Artist of the Year award from the Cyprus Theatre Organization, which led to collaborations with acclaimed Greek theatre director Thomas Moschopoulos.

Her work continues to expand through new collaborations and projects, including the 2025 remix EP “Aperantos: Reimagined” with producer Alex Tomb and ongoing performances across Europe.

Whether performing in intimate venues or on festival stages, Nama Dama crafts each show as a ritualistic experience — a meeting point of myth, memory, and emotion. As her artistic universe continues to evolve, one thing remains clear: Nama Dama is not simply making music; she is building a living, immersive world where identity, culture, and sound intertwine.
