Agistri Island: Color Turquoise

Discover one of the many Saronic gems just an hour away from Athens

The Saronic Islands never fail to amaze—even locals looking for a quick escape from Athens’ buzzing rhythm. The steps are simple: head to Piraeus, board a ferry, watch 2–3 gr2me original videos during the 55-minute ride, and just like that—Agistri appears. Turquoise waters draw you in, the smell of fresh seafood lingers in the air, and curious island cats come right up for a pet. You’re officially in paradise.

Agistri is part of the Saronic island group—alongside Salamina, Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses—and it might just be the greenest of them all. Pine trees cover much of its compact 14 km² area, filling the air with a resinous aroma and casting a green hue over beaches and trails. Their presence defines both the scenery and the island’s character.

The main villages—Skala, Megalochori (also called Milos), and Limenaria—each reveal a different side of Agistri. Megalochori, with its stone houses and quiet charm, is ideal for wandering. Skala, the island’s liveliest port, offers plenty of cafés and a bar where you can dine while gazing across the Saronic Gulf all the way to Piraeus.

Don’t miss these standout beaches:

Skala Beach: Sandy, shallow, and perfect for families.

Dragonera: A serene, pebbled beach surrounded by pine forest, ideal for laid-back swims and young people.

Aponisos: A dreamy spot connected to the island by a narrow bridge, but with an entrance fee.

For those who enjoy walking, more hidden places like Skliri and Chalikiada reward you with peace, shade, and clear water. Chalikiada especially feels like a secret—just a short hike from Skala, yet a world away.

You can also read Maureen Jensen’s story about Aegina here—a heartfelt piece by a beloved journalist who found magic in the Saronic islands and sadly passed away. Her words are a beautiful reminder of how deeply this region touches those who visit.
