Ntinos Manos

There is an airiness to his sound but at the same time, the force of complex harmonies.

The acclaimed Greek bass player and composer Ntinos Manos was born in Serres in 1990. He started playing the cello at the tender age of 9, before making the logical decision to study music, specifically in electric bass and later at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University in Corfu (now a fellow teacher there), where he completed his MA and his classical double bass diploma with high distinction.

He was the founding member of the Athens-based Next Step Quartet, one of the most important Greek jazz bands, and by the time the group went to hiatus he begun his solo career. His debut album, the ten-track “After the Storm” (2018), is a combination of jazz, rock and classical music, also featuring the prolific musicians Stavros Lantsias, David Lynch and Vasilis Podaras. His sophomore album, “Northwind” (2024), via Puzzlemusik, marks his dynamite conviction, the eagerness to channel moods around him, and the impish penchant for doodling way outside the lines.

Throughout his career Ntinos Manos counts many collaborations with international jazz artists such as Sheila Jordan, Gilad Atzmon, Ralph Peterson jr, David Kikoski, Tivon Pennicott, Jean Toussaint Manfred Schoof, J.D. Walter, Kevin Mahogany, Laurent Maur, Craig Bailey, Graig Handy, Jay Clayton, Eric Ineke and Shachar Elnatan, plus his numerous collabs with Greek artists like Savina Yannatou, Marina Satti, Elli Paspala, Filippos Pliatsikas, Babis Stokas, and Nikos Xydakis, just to name a few.

Ntinos Manos has been a harmonically innovative composer, a sought-after bass player, who’s captivating audiences with improvisation, harmonics, grooves, and an excellent sense of rhythm.
