YORGOS GEORGOPOULOS
He was born in Athens in 1975. He studied directing at the “Lykourgos Stavrakos” School of Film and Television. His father, an award-winning cinematographer, was a major influence on his career choice. He later studied Sociology in Rome at Università di Roma I: “La Sapienza.” Upon returning to Greece in 2000, he initially worked as an editor and later as a director, primarily in commercials and documentaries. He has directed two feature films.

Tungsten deals with the idea of electricity as a metaphor, the scenery is urban, and plot is unfolded during a single day. On day in Athens, continuous outages, and a final blackout, caused by the strike of technicians at the electricity company. A day during which six people’s lives are being crossed and diverted

By far … the best Greek production we saw this year. Imagine the surprise – unexpected – that I felt when, with a thousand and two reservations, I saw yet another Greek debut. My cinematic satisfaction touched perfection even more than last year’s “45 square meters”.
