Since gr2me made a documentary about Yiannis Poulopoulos (gr2me.com/yiannis-poulopoulos-inspiring-people-to-rescue-wild-animals/), the animal activist has been facing significant challenges. He was removed from the animal shelter he established on the island of Aegina and is now living in severe poverty. There are various allegations against him, including mismanagement, overcrowding of the shelter and poor sanitary conditions. But the people of Aegina, who know him for his commitment to animal welfare and his kind nature, suspect that there may be “special interests” involved in what’s happening.” Dominikos Ignatiadis, the director of the gr2me production, is determined to dig into the truth with a feature-length documentary he started filming a few months ago. We reached out to him and asked him to share his thoughts on the embattled animal activist. Here’s what he had to say:
Yiannis Poulopoulos is a true fighter for animals. He cares for injured creatures with determination, standing up against injustice and cruelty. He always helps those in need, often putting their comfort before his own. Yiannis has a unique ability to connect with animals, who seem to understand him in return. He views the world from their perspective, seeing it as a prison from which one longs to escape. Yiannis Poulopoulos—an innovator in animal care. With his deep love for animals, he has dedicated his life to their well-being. His energy never fades; it is fueled by the innocence that inspires his work. He seeks no recognition, admiration, or profit; personal gain is not his goal. Yiannis simply gives.
