National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Founded in 1837, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is Greece’s oldest higher education institution. Established shortly after Greece gained independence, its mission was to provide advanced education and foster intellectual development in a newly formed nation. Named after Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, the university aimed to promote knowledge across various fields. Over the years, it has grown into a major educational and research center in Southeast Europe, emphasizing academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and social responsibility. NKUA continues to play a vital role in shaping Greece’s scientific, cultural, and educational landscape.

A new initiative of the University is Narralive, an application run by a research group under the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and ATHENA Research Center. Narralive is a learning tool aimed at bringing history to life, through the power of narration! The goal of the tool is to create meaningful, interactive, perspective changing experiences for cultural heritage sites, by utilizing the possibilities of human to computer and human to human interaction.
