In the sea near ancient Epidaurus, not far from the coastline, lies a well-kept secret: The Villa of the Dolia, a Roman villa submerged beneath the waters. While many can catch glimpses of it and swim above its ruins, how much do they truly understand about its past, its ancient residents, and the dedicated modern scientists who undertook the challenging task of restoring this ancient monument?
This storytelling experience has been created in the context of the project PERIPLOUS: Autonomous guided and narrated tour over the sunken city of Epidaurus.
The idea of establishing a University in Greece emerged alongside with the Greek War of Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, officially founded in April 14th, 1837, is the first University not only of Greece but both the Balkan peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean region.
