The National Archaeological Museum continues its successful “Invisible Museum” initiative with an exciting new exhibition that unveils the world of the Mycenaeans through the eyes of the era’s “alchemists.” The exhibition, titled “Mycenaean Alchemists,” takes us back in time, bringing to light objects and techniques that are often hidden in the museum’s storage, away from the public eye.
The Mycenaeans, known for their strategic prowess, expansive movements, and rich cultural heritage, were exceptional craftsmen and alchemists of metal. Through this new presentation, visitors have the opportunity to discover the secrets behind the production of metallic objects such as jewelry, swords, and gold, as well as the symbolic significance of material transformation in Mycenaean society.
The exhibition combines historical artifacts with modern interpretations that highlight the scientific and philosophical world of the Mycenaeans. The displayed objects shed light on their advanced techniques and beliefs surrounding the unknown and the metaphysical. This presentation helps us better understand the holistic relationship the Mycenaeans had with nature, materials, and spirituality.
The “Invisible Museum” initiative uncovers the value of these forgotten objects, offering a unique opportunity to explore a fascinating, unknown world.
