The Legacy of Ktima Matsa
At the heart of Attica’s wine culture lies the prestigious KtimaMatsa Estate, overseen by Roxane Matsa, a dedicated steward of her family’s winemaking legacy. As a descendant of the historical Kamba family, Roxane has embraced her heritage with a passion that has made her a prominent figure in the region’s viticulture. Affectionately nicknamed “The Lady of Malagouzia” by her colleagues, she has become synonymous with the revival of this indigenous grape variety, known for its aromatic and refreshing characteristics.
In 2002, her tireless efforts in promoting and preserving Greek wine culture were recognized when she received the “Wine Personality of the Year 2001” award from the Union of Greek Wine Journalists. This accolade reflects her commitment to both tradition and innovation in winemaking.
Life on the KtimaMatsa Estate is deeply intertwined with the rhythm of the vineyard. Roxane finds joy in the daily rituals of vineyard care, from pruning to harvesting, ensuring that each grape is nurtured to perfection. Her hands-on approach extends to all stages of the winemaking process, allowing her to infuse the wines with her personal touch. The estate offers visitors an unforgettable experience, combining wine tastings with culinary traditions that showcase local ingredients paired harmoniously with her wines.
