Spetsofai Recipe: Make this rustic Greek dish at home.

Ingredients:

  • 500g Greek country sausages, sliced into thick rounds
  • 2 large bell peppers (red, green, or yellow), sliced
  • 1 largeonion, finelychopped
  • 3 garliccloves, minced
  • 3 ripe tomatoes, grated or 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsptomatopaste
  • 1 tspsugar
  • 1/2 tspdriedoregano
  • 1/2 tsp hot chili flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cupoliveoil
  • Salt and peppertotaste

Instructions:

  1. Brown the sausages: In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat and brown the sausage slices. Oncebrowned, remove and setaside.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: In the same pan, sauté the onion, garlic, and bell peppers until soft.
  3. Add tomatoes: Stir in the grated tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, and chili flakes. Cook for 5 minutestothicken.
  4. Simmer: Return the sausages to the pan, mix well, and let everything simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Seasonwithsalt and pepper.
  5. Serve: Serve hot, accompanied by crusty bread or over rice.
