A new double album celebrates the vibrant legacy of Greek and Cypriot composers
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Music Library Teaching Hall at the Athens Music Hall will host a special presentation of “Aenaos Poiein – To Endlessly Create”, a double album release honoring the legacy of Thomas Tambakos. This cultural event is the culmination of a collaborative production by IRIDA CLASSICAL, SUBWAYS MUSIC, and the Thomas Tambakos Archive of Greek Composers (TTA).
The album presents twenty-seven works by Greek and Cypriot composers (2000–2024), either dedicated to Thomas Tambakos or commissioned by the TTA. Blending classical and jazz elements, they reflect a modern yet tradition-rooted Greek musical identity.
The album showcases a wide range of styles—from solo and chamber pieces to works with electronic elements and one pure jazz composition—reflecting the diversity of today’s Greek music scene. Performed by forty-one musicians, a chamber orchestra, and three composers, it spans generations, from Dimitris Dragatakis (1914–2001) to rising talent Emilia Vaitsi (b. 1995).
The phrase “Aenaos Poiein”—To Endlessly Create—captures the spirit of this event. It highlights both the enduring presence of Greek composers through time and the 45 years of continuous work by the Archive of Greek Composers (AEMTHT), which has supported, preserved, and promoted Greek music since its founding in 1980.
As contemporary music continues to evolve, events like this ensure that the voices of Greek creators are not only preserved but also celebrated and heard.
