Greek rap has emerged over the past decades as one of the most powerful and influential voices in the country’s music landscape. From its underground beginnings to its current mainstream dominance, it has captured the attention of listeners across generations and social backgrounds, telling stories of urban life, social challenges, personal struggles, and dreams for a better future.
In the new live discussion from the Society Uncensored series, titled “The Power of Greek Rap,” a diverse panel of rappers, music producers, journalists, and rap music listeners will come together to unpack the complex story of Greek rap. Through an open and dynamic dialogue, Saske, Ladele, Katohos, Mira, Christos Melidis (More), M.Hulot, and Andreas Metaxas will explore its origins, its evolution through different social and political contexts, and the development of its various sub-scenes — from hardcore underground styles to melodic and mainstream sounds.
The conversation will also focus on the reasons behind the genre’s significant growth in recent years, especially among younger audiences, and the way Greek rap has managed to reflect and influence wider cultural and social trends. Panelists will discuss how the genre has crossed boundaries, embraced innovation, and at times faced criticism, while continuing to push forward as a powerful form of expression.
Importantly, the event will not only seek to provide answers but will also raise new questions about the future of Greek rap. What challenges does it face? How can it stay authentic while growing bigger? What new paths could it explore in the coming years?
The event takes place on Wednesday, April 30, at the Small Stage of the Stegi.
